Joseph is the President and founder of Mojave Water Management. He has over 29 years of experience in the irrigation industry including landscape irrigation design, drip irrigation, troubleshooting, water management, water auditing, central control systems, weather stations, predicting /estimating water use, plant/water/soil relationships, and an in depth knowledge of landscape contracting and maintenance. Joseph is an active member of The Irrigation Association (IA) where he currently serves on several committee. He is an IA authorized trainer for several of their irrigation classes taught nationwide. Joseph served on the Certification Board from 1998 to 2004, and in 2003 was chair of the Certification board. In 2005, Joseph served on the Irrigation Association Board of Directors. Joe is also a professional member of the American Society of Irrigation Consultants and currently serves as Past-President of the Southwest Chapter of the American Society of Irrigation Consultants. In 1999, Southwest Trees and Turf Magazine named Joseph as its Professional of the Year for his dedication to water conservation and support of the Green Industry. The Las Vegas Valley Water District presented Joe the "The Linn Mills Award" at the Desert Green Conference in November 2001. Our Philosophy: |
Irrigation Design: |
Mojave Water Management designs irrigation systems to operate within the project watering window, meet the individual water needs of each plant, and zone systems by type of irrigation (rotors, fixed spray, drip, bubbler, etc.) to ensure efficient irrigation. In addition, we estimate the water needs of mature trees and shrubs and design the irrigation system to meet these needs. We believe in providing sufficient water to wet the entire area beneath the canopy of a mature tree to help facilitate the development of a healthy, stable root system. We produce our designs using AutoCAD and Watermark. To ensure turf irrigation systems perform at optimal efficiency, we use Space and Hyperspace to assist with the spacing, layout, sprinkler head, and nozzle selection. This paper audit identifies the potential Distribution Uniformity of the sprinkler system prior to installation. |

Predicting and Estimating Water Use: |
Mojave Water Management believes on of the keys to efficient irrigation is developing an accurate water budget. This involves estimating how much water a given landscape will use. We have extensive experience estimating landscape water use, preparing water budgets, and we assisted with writing the textbook The Irrigation Association uses for their Predicting and Estimating Landscape Water Use class. We are familiar with California's AB-325 and similar laws that establish a Maximum Applied Water Allowance (MAWA) for a project. |
Landscape Irrigation Audits: |
Mojave Water Management conducts Landscape Irrigation Audits in accordance with The Irrigation Association's Landscape Irrigation Auditor Training Manual. The purpose of an Audit is to determine the Distribution Uniformity of each station. The industry standard Distribution Uniformity for an impact or rotary system is 70%, and 55% for pop-up spray systems. We have audited over 60 large sites, including schools, parks, sport complexes, multifamily residential, and homeowner associations. Our experience and expertise are unparalleled. |
Water Management: |
The heart of a sound water management program is developing the irrigation schedule. The type of irrigation, micro climates, soil conditions, and local Evapotranspiration Rates (ET) help determine how often irrigation is needed. The frequency of irrigation is dependent upon the individual plants. We develop separate irrigation schedules for trees, shrubs, and turf areas to maximize efficiency. Proper fertilization schedules, maintenance practices, visual observation, and schedule fine-tuning make up the balance of a comprehensive water management program. We are experienced in monitoring real time ET, developing custom irrigation schedules, and suggesting maintenance practices to improve irrigation efficiency. |
Landscape and Irrigation System Evaluations: |
We examine and evaluate an existing landscape and irrigation system to identify cost-effective strategies that will save water, reduce costs, and improve the health and appearance of the landscape. A complete evaluation includes a visual observation of the irrigation system operating, analysis of the type of irrigation used, sprinkler head spacing and layout, nozzle selection, zoning, operating pressure, system hydraulics, and cost/benefit analysis of suggested improvements. |
